Dhurandhar 3’ Memes Erupt After India Falsely Claims Pakistani Soldier Was Killed

A Pakistani soldier whom Indian authorities claimed had been killed appeared alive alongside DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry at a press conference on Thursday, turning a serious dispute over competing military claims into a wave of memes across Pakistani social media.

According to Images, India had claimed that Havaldar Khalid was killed during recent fighting in Kashmir. The claim was dramatically challenged when the soldier appeared in person during the DG ISPR’s press conference on October 2

Lt Gen Chaudhry used the appearance to dispute what Pakistan describes as false information being circulated by India about recent military developments. With Khalid sitting alongside him, the military spokesperson directly addressed the claim that the soldier had died.

The unusual moment quickly moved beyond conventional political and military coverage.

Pakistani social media users responded with jokes and memes referencing Bollywood’s Dhurandhar franchise, with some joking that the episode had already provided material for a hypothetical Dhurandhar 3.

The reference carries additional context because the Dhurandhar films have previously generated controversy in Pakistan over their depiction of the country. Pakistani actors and commentators have criticised the franchise for what they regard as anti-Pakistan narratives, while the films have also generated considerable online debate on both sides of the border.

The latest viral reaction shows how quickly military information disputes between India and Pakistan can cross into popular culture. What begins as a claim about casualties can become meme material within hours, particularly when visual evidence appears to directly contradict the original assertion.

But beneath the humour sits a more serious issue: misinformation during periods of military tension.

Claims involving casualties, captured personnel and battlefield developments can spread rapidly through official statements, television channels and social media before independent verification is possible. Once amplified, inaccurate information can shape public perceptions even when subsequently corrected.

The episode therefore reinforces the importance of verifying military claims from both sides, particularly during periods of heightened India-Pakistan tensions.

In this instance, however, Pakistan’s response had an unusually simple visual rebuttal: the soldier India was reported to have claimed dead appeared publicly at a press conference.

For Pakistani social media, that was enough.

Within hours, the conversation had moved from military claims to Bollywood jokes, with Dhurandhar 3 becoming the punchline to another chapter in the increasingly digital information battle between the two neighbours.
