Spider-Man: Brand New Day Opens to Record $927 Million Worldwide

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has launched with one of the biggest box office debuts in cinema history, earning an estimated $927 million worldwide during its opening weekend. The Marvel blockbuster now ranks as the second-biggest global opening weekend ever, trailing only Avengers: Endgame, while also becoming the largest worldwide debut of 2026.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film marks Tom Holland’s fourth standalone appearance as Spider-Man and continues Peter Parker’s story after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following Doctor Strange’s memory-erasing spell, Peter finds himself completely alone in a world where nobody remembers his identity. Forced to rebuild his life from the ground up, he confronts a new threat while navigating themes of loneliness, friendship, identity and redemption. The film also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando and Tramell Tillman.

The film generated $355 million across the United States and Canada, finishing just $2 million behind Avengers: Endgame’s domestic opening record. Internationally, it collected another $572 million from 66 overseas markets, pushing its worldwide debut to $927 million.

It also achieved the biggest opening day in box office history, earning approximately $168 million on Friday, surpassing the previous record set by Avengers: Endgame. Globally, its opening weekend now trails only Endgame’s $1.22 billion debut.

Among international markets, China led the way with $121 million, followed by strong performances in the United Kingdom, Mexico, South Korea and Australia. The film also set opening weekend records for a Hollywood release in several countries, including India, France, Brazil, Spain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, highlighting Spider-Man’s worldwide popularity.

The strong commercial performance has been matched by equally positive audience and critical reception. The film holds a 90 percent critics’ score and an impressive 98 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside an “A” CinemaScore, indicating exceptionally strong word of mouth. Industry analysts believe the emotional storyline focusing on rebuilding relationships and finding hope after loss has resonated with audiences across different age groups.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige described the launch as “a truly phenomenal” achievement, while Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman Tom Rothman credited the film’s emphasis on human connection for expanding its appeal beyond traditional superhero audiences.

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, combined with the continued strong performance of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, also helped deliver the highest-grossing domestic box office weekend in history, providing a major boost to cinema operators worldwide.

With a reported production budget of around $225 million, excluding marketing costs, the film has already become Sony Pictures’ biggest opening weekend ever. Analysts expect it to cross the $1 billion worldwide milestone within days, while many believe its sustained momentum could challenge the highest-grossing Spider-Man films and potentially join the exclusive list of movies that have earned more than $2 billion globally, further cementing Spider-Man’s status as one of the most successful entertainment franchises in cinematic history.
