Pakistan Successfully Tests Indigenous Fa’az Air-to-Air Missile

Pakistan has successfully conducted the first flight test of its indigenously developed Fa’az air-to-air missile, marking an important step in the country’s aerospace and defence technology.

The test took place on November 3, 2026, as Pakistan continues efforts to develop advanced military equipment through domestic research and engineering.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the missile is designed to engage aerial targets at longer ranges and improve the operational capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

What Makes the Fa’az Missile Significant?

The Fa’az missile features an advanced terminal guidance system that helps it track and engage moving aerial targets during the final stage of flight.

This technology is important in modern aerial combat, where aircraft must identify and respond to threats at considerable distances.

ISPR said the new missile would improve the PAF’s operational flexibility and strengthen Pakistan’s overall defence capabilities.

However, officials have not disclosed the missile’s exact operational range, maximum speed or expected induction date.

Pakistan Moves Towards Defence Self-Reliance

The successful test represents progress in Pakistan’s efforts to reduce dependence on imported military technology.

Pakistan currently operates fighter aircraft equipped with foreign-developed air-to-air weapons. Developing a domestic missile could eventually provide greater flexibility in production, maintenance and future upgrades.

The Fa’az programme also reflects growing investment in local scientific research and aerospace engineering.

Senior military officers, scientists and engineers involved in the programme witnessed the successful flight test.

National Leadership Congratulates Scientists

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir and the service chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers responsible for the development.

The test follows Pakistan’s recent launches of extended-range Fatah-2 and Fatah-IV missile systems in October.

Together, these developments demonstrate the country’s continuing focus on domestic defence technology.

The Fa’az test marks a significant technological achievement, although further testing and operational integration will determine its long-term role in Pakistan’s air defence capabilities.
