A team of young Pakistani students has earned international recognition after being named World Champions and Best Delegation at the Global Model UN in Singapore, competing against more than 700 students representing over 50 countries.
The 10-member delegation from Westminster Islamabad represented Pakistan at the international event organised by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). The students secured eight Best Diplomacy Awards along with two highly competitive plenary speech positions.
Among the delegation were Rujwa Fatima, Mohammad Zurez, Asna Ahmad and Syed Rehan Shah, all just 12 years old. Their performances received recognition during the conference, demonstrating Pakistan’s growing presence in international academic and diplomatic competitions.
Two other Pakistani participants, Nushwa Fatima and Saifullah Omar Mufti, achieved another distinction. They were among only 12 students worldwide shortlisted to address the conference’s opening ceremony before an audience representing more than 50 countries.
During her address, Nushwa spoke about multilateralism, the rights of Muslims in Gaza and proposals for reforming the United Nations to promote greater equity and justice globally.
The Pakistani delegation’s participation extended beyond formal debates. Students also showcased Pakistan’s national and regional culture during the Global Cultural Night held on August 14, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day.
The conference took place from August 11 to 15 and brought together young participants for simulations of United Nations diplomacy, negotiations and international decision-making. According to a press release cited by Dawn, UN officials and participating delegations praised the Pakistani students’ professionalism, preparation and diplomatic abilities.
The achievement is significant not simply because of the awards but because of the scale and diversity of the competition. Pakistani students were competing in an environment involving hundreds of young delegates from dozens of countries while being assessed on skills such as diplomacy, negotiation, public speaking and international affairs.
Their success offers another example of Pakistani students gaining recognition on international academic platforms while providing young participants with exposure to global diplomacy and multilateral institutions.
