Bitcoin Surges Above $80,000 as Weak Dollar Fuels Crypto Rally

Bitcoin climbed above $80,000 on Tuesday, reaching its highest level in more than three months as weakness in the US dollar and renewed concerns over currency debasement pushed investors toward digital and physical assets.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency was trading around $80,323 during Asian hours after touching $81,237.94 earlier in the session, its highest level since mid-May. Bitcoin has now gained 28 percent during August and is on course for its strongest monthly performance since November 2024.

The latest surge builds on strong momentum from the previous week. Bitcoin has risen around 16 percent since US President Donald Trump called on Congress to pass legislation providing clearer definitions and rules for the rapidly expanding cryptocurrency sector.

But regulatory optimism is only part of the story.

The US Treasury recently unveiled plans to buy back more long-dated government bonds in an effort to contain rising longer-term yields. The intervention has contributed to pressure on the dollar and revived what financial markets describe as the “debasement trade.”

The idea is that when policymakers intervene to contain bond yields, some of the pressure can shift toward the currency. Investors concerned about declining purchasing power may then move toward scarce assets such as gold and Bitcoin.

Gold has benefited from the same trend, climbing to a three-month high as the dollar weakened.

The combination has strengthened Bitcoin’s appeal among investors who view the cryptocurrency as an alternative store of value when confidence in conventional currencies comes under pressure.

Market sentiment has consequently turned increasingly bullish. Analysts cited by Reuters suggested that a sustained breakout could potentially open a path toward $95,000 and eventually the psychologically significant $100,000 level. That remains a market projection rather than a guaranteed price target.

The rally also illustrates how Bitcoin is becoming increasingly sensitive to the same macroeconomic forces influencing traditional financial markets. Treasury policy, bond yields, dollar movements and expectations surrounding US financial regulation are now major factors shaping cryptocurrency prices.

For investors, however, the rapid rise also reinforces Bitcoin’s volatility. A 28 percent monthly gain can attract significant speculative demand, but cryptocurrency markets remain capable of equally sharp reversals when macroeconomic expectations or investor sentiment change.

For now, momentum remains firmly positive. Bitcoin has broken through $80,000, the dollar is under pressure and renewed concerns about currency debasement are giving both digital assets and gold another powerful tailwind.
