Pakistani-American actor Faran Tahir has returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after 18 years, reprising his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar in Disney+’s VisionQuest. Tahir first played the villain in the original Iron Man film in 2008, which launched the MCU.His return surprised fans because Raza was believed to have been killed by Obadiah Stane, played by Jeff Bridges. However, the original film never confirmed his death on-screen.
Raza Returns in VisionQuest Episode 6
Tahir appears in episode 6, titled Deadlock, which takes place in Madripoor. The fictional island city was previously featured in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In the episode, Vision, played by Paul Bettany, travels to Madripoor to rescue Thomas Shepherd, also known as Tommy Maximoff, his reincarnated son from WandaVision. Bounty hunter Paladin, played by Todd Stashwick, has captured Tommy to lure Vision into a trap. However, the mysterious client behind the contract later cancels the assignment and sends other bounty hunters after Vision. Raza arrives with an armed group, hoping to capture Vision himself. Paladin recognises his voice and expresses surprise that he is still alive. Their confrontation ends quickly when Paladin knocks Raza unconscious.
Raza’s Character Has Changed Since Iron Man
In Iron Man, Raza led an Afghanistan-based group connected to the 10 Rings. Obadiah Stane hired him to capture and kill Tony Stark. However, Raza kept Stark alive after discovering his ability to build advanced weapons. Stane later attacked Raza using a device that emitted a high-pitched sound.
In VisionQuest, Raza looks noticeably different. He wears a formal suit instead of military clothing and operates in Madripoor. He also appears to work as an independent bounty hunter. However, the series does not confirm whether his new associates belong to the 10 Rings.
Faran Tahir’s Marvel Journey Continues
Tahir’s return connects Marvel’s latest series with its first film. His other acting credits include 12 Monkeys, the 2009 Star Trek reboot and FX’s The Old Man, where he reunited with Jeff Bridges.
VisionQuest continues on Disney+, with episode 7, Immolation, scheduled for November 3 and the finale on November 10.
Although Raza’s latest appearance is brief, his return leaves open the possibility of another role in Marvel’s expanding storyline.
