A Rawalpindi court has granted police three-day physical remand of two suspects arrested in connection with the death of Hina Javed, as investigators continue collecting evidence in a case that has triggered widespread public outrage.
The suspects, identified by police as Hina’s husband, Faisal Asghar, and domestic worker Zeeshan, were produced before a magistrate on Sunday. Police requested their physical custody to continue the investigation, and the court approved the request.
Hina’s body was found in a bathroom at her home in Rawalpindi’s Lalkurti area, which falls within the jurisdiction of Civil Lines police station. Police said she had been married to Asghar for nine months.
According to the FIR lodged on the complaint of Hina’s brother, her hands were tied behind her back and her mouth was covered with a piece of cloth when her body was discovered. The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
Investigators told the court that a rope and wire allegedly used in the killing had been recovered. DNA samples from both suspects have also been collected for forensic testing.
Police further allege that Asghar paid Zeeshan to participate in the killing and that the domestic worker assisted him during the alleged attack. These are police allegations at this stage and have not been established through a final court judgment.
The investigation has also expanded beyond the two arrested suspects. Police said Asghar’s father has been included in the investigation and that his statement has been recorded.
Earlier reporting on the case said Hina’s family had alleged that she had previously experienced abuse during her marriage. Her brother also alleged that attempts were made to portray her death as suicide. Police conducted a post-mortem examination, while investigators collected evidence from the residence.
The case has generated a strong reaction beyond the courtroom. Pakistani celebrities, including Mahira Khan and Iffat Umar, have publicly called attention to Hina’s death, while a social media campaign under the banner “Justice for Hina Javed” has gained momentum.
The public response has also placed renewed attention on violence against women and the importance of ensuring that allegations of domestic abuse are investigated effectively.
For now, the case remains at the investigation stage. The three-day physical remand allows police to continue questioning the suspects and gathering forensic evidence; it does not establish their guilt. Any claims regarding responsibility should therefore remain clearly attributed to police, the FIR or Hina’s family until judicial proceedings determine the case.
